Breast surgery is growing in popularity each year and this comes as no surprise. Whether your breasts are too small, have lost their firmness after childbirth or have become saggy due to weight loss, there are many varied cosmetic surgery procedures to help you achieve the ideal breast size and shape.

Breast Surgery- an Overview

Breast surgery is an ideal option for women whose bosoms are not in line with their body. With the increasing age, your skin loses elasticity. As a result, your breasts naturally become saggy, unattractive and less youthful looking. Today, there are several women around the world who are considering reducing, uplifting or otherwise enhancing the appearance of their boob.

If you are among one of them, be assured that there is a surgical procedure to meet your individual needs.

The ideal size and shape of your bosom and anything else related to the appearance of women's chest can be achieved through various kinds of cosmetic/plastic surgeries.

Types

Basically, there are four main types of breast surgery - Augmentation, Reduction, Uplift and Reconstruction @ www.bestbreastsurgeryindia.com.

Breast Augmentation

Also known as enlargement surgery or augmentation mammaplasty, breast augmentation is a cosmetic surgery designed to increase the size of a woman's bust by surgically placing implants behind the breasts.

The implants usually are of two types - saline-filled and silicone gel-filled. Both types contain an outer shell made of silicone. These implants are inserted under the breast, or under the breast tissue and chest muscle to increase breast size or to rebuild breast tissue after mastectomy.

Also popularly known as a boob job, this enlargement operation is the preferred option for many women who want bigger boobs. This kind of surgery can correct a range of different problems, from undeveloped breasts and reduced boob sized due to pregnancy and weight loss to asymmetrical breasts. The operation only takes around 1.5 hours to complete.

According to the 2011 cosmetic plastic surgery statistics from American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), at least 307,180 augmentation operations were carried out in 2011, up from 296,203 surgeries a year before.

Breast Reduction

Women with overly large and heavy breasts can be benefited by this type of surgery. The extremely bigger boobs can cause numerous physical discomforts such as backache, shoulder pain and neck pain. Breast reduction surgery or reduction mammaplasty is done to reduce their volume so as to achieve a bust size in proportion with the body. Taking 2-3.5 hours, the reduction mammaplasty alleviates the physical discomfort associated with overly large breasts.

Breast Lift

Women who have saggy boobs or who have lost the shape and tone of their breasts, usually following pregnancy and due to breastfeeding and weight loss are opting for breast uplift. Also known as mastopexy, the surgery is done to produce a fuller bust by lifting the drooping breasts and making them firmer.

The ASPS statistics show that the number of boob lift surgeries in 2011 jumped to 90,679 from 89,931 surgeries in 2010.

Breast Reconstruction

Breast reconstruction surgery literally means rebuilding of a woman's bosom. The reconstructive surgery is an option for women who have had a breast removed due to breast cancer. Using different plastic surgery techniques, a cosmetic surgeon attempts to restore the affected breast to near normal shape, size and appearance following mastectomy. The surgery is also aimed at restoring symmetry between the two breasts.

The procedure usually involves more than one surgery. There are two methods to reconstruct the breast - by inserting a type of implant, called an expander, and by using tissue taken from another part of your body. The balloon-like expander is first implanted beneath the skin and chest muscle, and then is slowly filled with a saline solution at periodic intervals to create a new breast shape. The surgery may take from one to six hours to complete.
